Savage Lovecast on HIV Eradication
On today’s Savage Lovecast*, Vy Chu — a Capitol Hill based medical doctor and specialist in gay men’s health — and Dan Savage discuss some of the recent findings about HIV, specifically the clinical trials that showed taking antiretroviral treatment reduces risk of transmission by five times. They make a good point: that universal/mandatory testing and treatment could eliminate the virus, just like mandatory vaccinations historically led to the eradication of smallpox and the elimination of polio. Of course, access to healthcare is a major obstacle.
(Then they go on to answer questions about hemorrhoids.)
* Savage Lovecast, in the unlikely case you didn’t know, is about sex and relationships.
