Today at 7pm Joshua Akey will kick off the 4-week summer public lecture series in the UW Department of Genome Sciences with a talk on Recent adventures in human evolution. Free. Foege Building, room S060, University District, Seattle (map).
The entertainment quality of these public lectures last year varied but always I learned something cool and will go again this year.
Also tonight, starting 9pm — open house at the Jacobsen observatory: a talk about Mars and its robotic explorer Spirit geared towards kids and ample opportunity to look at the clear skies through a 120-year-old telescope and some modern ones. Free. University District, Seattle (map).
Shucks. Wish I knew about this sooner. I would have gone.
Sorry you missed it. I try to maintain the calendar page up-to-date so you can look there for events in the near future. But the summer isn’t as eventful as the rest of the year.
